Natasha Edwards

Natasha Edwards works in the trades for the Capital Regional District in Victoria. She developed her Trades knowledge with various training and employment opportunities throughout Alberta and British Columbia.

What training or jobs did you complete that led to this career?

I started with the Women in Trades program at Camosun College, where I decided on electrical training. Once I finished that program, I worked for a year in BC before moving to Alberta to work in the oil fields. The original program got my hands-on experience, experience in the oil fields got me my class one driver’s licence, and now I work with Capital Regional District, and I love this job.

What inspires you about working in a Trade?

Starting in the trades has opened many doors and helped build my confidence working with hand and power tools. There is always a chance to learn something new because we are always on different jobs. The days fly by, and there are a lot of opportunities to grow within a company to leadership roles.

What advice would you give to trades students looking to build their careers?

Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Pick up a power tool and know that practice makes perfect. When I started, my first hundred cuts weren’t that pretty, but I got there, and now I own two houses and a truck by the age of 30
